We are happy to announce that Capella Regalis resumed regular, weekly rehearsals for Senior Choir, Probationers, and Young Men beginning on Friday, October 30, 2020, at St Andrew's United Church, Halifax. All the details regarding how regular rehearsals and special events work in these Covid times are in the Capella Regalis Covid-19 Prevention Plan.
All in-person activities of the choir were suspended during the period March 15 to October 30, 2020, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, including a tour of Quebec and Ontario that we had planned for May 2020, a premier performance for Scotia Festival of Music planned for June 2020, our 10-year Anniversary celebration concert and party slated for June 2020, our annual Choir Camp in September 2020, and many Evensong services, rehearsals, and other events. We did, however, celebrate our 10-year Anniversary during the shut-down with a special Newsletter featuring a decade of memories in words and photos, a new YouTube video, and our updated Highlights tour of the choir's history. We also designed and launched this new website, a work in progress that we are greatly enjoying.
Thanks to the help and support of many individuals, and the hospitality of St Andrew's United Church, we are weathering the challenges of Covid-19. Although we suspended our in-person activities once again in the November - December "second lockdown" of Halifax Regional Municipality and were not able to produce a To Bethlehem With Kings Christmas performance, we felt lucky to resume regular rehearsals once again in January, and the choir broadcast its first Evensong video recording on February 21, 2021. The choir is currently working on J.S. Bach's Cantata BWV 4, Christ lag in Todesbanden, slated for video broadcast on Easter Day (April 4, 2021). We welcomed four new choristers to our Probationers Program following auditions in October, and our Senior Choir and Young Men programs continue to thrive. We will continue to offer auditions for interested families on a rolling basis.
