Capella Regalis celebrated its 15th Anniversary Season with a special end-of-season concert on June 15, 2025, at the Cathedral Church of All Saints, Halifax. The concert program featured repertoire from Capella Regalis's latest recording, Songs of the Sea, as well as selections from the past fifteen years of music-making including C. H. H. Parry’s jubilant coronation anthem “I Was Glad", "Skye Boat Song" arranged by Nick Halley, and, of course, Paul Halley’s hit arrangement of “Farewell to Nova Scotia.” A particular delight was seeing a record number of Probationers (20+) on stage performing alongside the Boys and Girls Senior Choirs and Men's section.
The concert was followed by a 15th Anniversary Party & Thank You Bash for our community next door in the Great Hall. At the party, we said goodbye to Peter Dietz, a tenor in the Young Men’s section who began in Capella Regalis over 10 years ago as a 7-year-old and is now going off to Queen’s University in Kingston, ON. At the party we also said goodbye to Llewellyn Davidson, who has been singing with Capella Regalis for the past three years and is leaving Halifax to continue his organ studies at McGill. Another of our Young Men, Harkin Yang, is moving across the country to BC.
It was a special surprise to see many alumni who were part of the first generation of Capella Regalis choristers, including Alistair Maksym, Ryley Buffett, Eugene Olugu, Sam Gillett, and Gabriel O’Brien, who has recently returned to Halifax as the Director of Music at the University of King’s College. Sam Gillett has agreed to take the lead in launching an official Capella Regalis Alumni Association.
A big THANK YOU to everyone who supported Capella Regalis in our 2024-25 Season!
