After the University of King's College Chapel's dress rehearsal performance of Bach's St. Matthew Passion the boys from Capella Regalis had finished up their part of the rehearsal and left for home. I walked into the class room where they had stored their backpacks and coats and found Sheamus there with a piece of chalk in his hand beginning to write. I asked if his Mom was there to pick him up and he said "yes" and then I asked what he was doing; thinking he was just playing around. He didn't say anything and just kept writing until he finished the text from the first movement. A year ago Sheamus had never sang in a choir, in fact the first time he had seen a pipe organ was at his audition, now he is sight reading and singing in German. This is the kind of musical opportunity that choristers in Capella Regalis receive.
